Faced with shrinking revenues and unacceptable spending cuts, members of the Newton County Board of Education were unable to come to agreement on a balanced fiscal year 2027 budget at their meeting Tuesday night. A vote on the proposed budget was denied by a vote of 1-4, with Abigail Coggin casting the lone vote for approval. A special called meeting to discuss the budget is expected to be scheduled in the next few days. Coggin attended the meeting remotely.
